Description from the seller
PIERRE EUGÈNE CLAIRIN (1897-1980),
FERME DE LA BASSÉE,
ACQUERELLO, SIGNED,
53 x 41 cm (61 x 50 cm with frame)
Watercolor on paper with touches of gouache. The composition presents a calm water inlet in the foreground with a moored boat. Several trees dominate the scene, standing out against a cloudy sky rendered in gray and cream tones. On the opposite bank, the shapes of a farm and other low buildings can be glimpsed. The work is executed with a palette based on grays, blues, browns, and ochres.
The work is signed and titled by the artist in the lower left corner: "Ferme de la Bassée 24 fév. 69", with the signature "pierre eugène clairin". On the back there are the inventory and sale labels from Genève Enchères.
Pierre Eugène Clairin (1897-1980) was a French painter, watercolorist, and lithographer, a pupil of Cormon, known for his landscapes depicting the French countryside and river scenes. The work is in excellent condition and is framed under glass.
For shipping, the glass will be removed; it rarely arrives intact and its breakage may risk damaging the work if you’re willing to take the risk. I can leave it at your own risk.
The frame visible in the photo is included in the lot as a pure gift from me and is not part of the sale, does not determine its value, and, given its delicacy, is not insured. Consequently, any defects already present on the frame are not reported and any damage to it during transport will not be considered for claims or returns. The wall mounting system could also be removed. Glass often breaks during transport and can spoil the work. They can be removed upon request at no additional cost. Please inform me if you prefer the work to be shipped without it; otherwise I cannot take responsibility.
Notes on shipping and customs
The item is shipped from Geneva, Switzerland. For this reason, delivery times to European Union countries may be slightly longer than usual due to normal customs clearance procedures.
In case of return of the package for an incorrect address, unclaimed package, or unpaid duties, the buyer will have to pay a second shipping and cover the return costs.
I also remind you that, since Switzerland is outside the EU customs area, import duties, local VAT, and customs charges are entirely the buyer’s responsibility and will be requested by your country’s authorities at delivery. I advise you to inform yourself in advance to avoid surprises. Alternatively to shipping, if you have the option, personal pickup in Geneva is always the option I prefer and strongly recommend, as it allows you to eliminate transport costs and ensures the maximum safety for the work. If shipping is chosen, I will do my best to pack the piece to protect the painting during transit.
