Description from the seller
Thuringian porcelain – Rare 15-piece tea service (serves 6) with bird decoration (Bird pattern) & gold – Germany (circa 1775–1800)
and exceptionally complete and early 18th-century Thüringer porcelain tea service, produced in the last quarter of the 18th century (circa 1775–1800, surrounding Limbach / Wallendorf / Gera).
The set is executed in underglaze cobalt blue and richly gilded with overglaze gold (gold gilt). The ensemble displays the classic and sought-after Thüringer Vogelmuster: a stylized bird perched on a flowering branch, surrounded by floral motifs and finished with the characteristic scalloped arcading border (Arkadengrundbordüre).
The cups feature characteristic C-shaped Rococo ears with a thumb rest (Ohrenhenkel mit Daumenrast). Subtly, as is common for many early Thüringer teaware from this period. That such a 15-piece service has survived in this complete and largely undamaged condition after more than 225 years is a rarity.
Composition of the lot (15 pieces):
1x Teapot with original lid
1x Lid sugar pot with original lid
1x Cream jug
6x Tea cups with formed ear and thumb rest
6x Saucers
