Description from the seller
A splendid and fully authentic Japanese tea service / coffee service made of ultra-thin eggshell porcelain from the early to mid 20th century (circa the 1930s–1950s).
This service is executed in a beautiful, vibrant coral-orange base glaze and is hand-decorated with the renowned raised slip technique (Moriage). The detailed images depict Eastern dragons (Dragonware) with fine black, white, and gold accents.
The secret in the base (Lithophane):
The absolute highlight of this service lies in the bottoms of the cups. When you hold an empty cup up to the light, a magical phenomenon occurs: a stunning, three-dimensional face of a Japanese Geisha appears in the porcelain.
Condition of the service:
This type of porcelain is extremely delicate, but this set is in absolute display-case condition. The china is 100% perfect and damage-free: no chips, no hairline cracks, and no wear to the painting.
Given the material’s sensitivity, pick-up is recommended.
The measurements are approximate and pertain only to the largest piece (the teapot).
