Description from the seller
✦ FREE WORLDWIDE SHIPPING ✦ RATED EXCELLENT
A splendid atmospheric landscape by Johann Baptist Wilhelm August Weber (1817–1873), an important German landscape painter associated with the Düsseldorf School of Painting.
Born in Frankfurt am Main in 1817, Weber moved to Düsseldorf in 1838, where he established himself as a successful landscape painter. His works are distinguished by their poetic atmosphere, carefully balanced compositions and evocative treatments of evening and moonlit light. He was regarded as one of the leading representatives of the idealised landscape tradition of the Düsseldorf School and was known for his particular fascination with atmospheric evening scenes.
The present painting exemplifies Weber’s refined romantic landscape style: a tranquil waterway leads the eye towards a distant village church, framed by majestic trees and grazing cattle. The warm golden light of the setting sun, reflected in the water, lends the scene a serene and contemplative character.
A perfect addition to any discerning art collection.
