The Aluminium Chair is one of the greatest design pieces of the 20th century. Charles and Ray Eames conceived and designed this chair in 1958 for the private residence of an art collector in Columbus, Indiana (USA). To realize it, the designer duo abandoned the shell-seat principle, instead stretching a panel of fabric or leather between two aluminum side elements to create a taut yet elastic seat. The chair adapts to the body and is very comfortable, even without complex padding.

La Aluminium Chair è uno dei più grandi pezzi di design del XX secolo. Charles e Ray Eames concepirono e disegnarono questa sedia nel 1958 per la residenza privata di un collezionista d'arte a Columbus, Indiana (Stati Uniti). Per la sua realizzazione, la coppia di designer ha abbandonato il principio della seduta a guscio, tendendo invece un pannello di tessuto o pelle tra due elementi laterali in alluminio per creare una seduta tesa ma elastica. La sedia si adatta al corpo della persona ed è molto confortevole, anche in assenza di imbottiture complesse.
