Description from the seller
GENERAL:
Mercedes-Benz 230GE year 1983, 4-speed manual with reduction gear and differential and central transfer locks. The odometer shows 80,100 km and given the overall mechanical condition of the car it seems they are real. As an interesting note for enthusiasts and collectors, 1983 was an iconic year for the Geländewagen saga, consolidating the robustness of the W460 series. The 2.3-liter M102 engine with Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical fuel injection present in this 230GE version represented a major leap in reliability and response compared to earlier carbureted models, being one of the most durable mechanisms of the era due to its excellent balance between torque and simplicity. This exact model shares the military and rescue DNA that gave worldwide fame to the G-Class, turning it into a rising asset in today’s classic car market thanks to its iconic three-lock configuration.
BODYWORK AND PAINT:
The body has small rust patches in several places as seen in the photos, which is common in these cars as they tend to rust with age, but there are no large or major holes, making it an easy-to-repair base. The tailgate hardly has rust and is not sagging from its supports. The chassis also shows little rust and does not require welding or anything like that. The lower part of the mechanical section shows quite a few rust marks but they are merely superficial, which ensures the vehicle has not been in coastal or high-m mountain areas. The rear trunk area shows no damage, dents, scratches, or scuffs, proving it has not endured rough handling. The original steel wheels need repainting to look perfect, but as a whole they provide a very good base for a solid and rapid restoration.
MECHANICS:
The engine starts easily and runs very smoothly. It requires routine basic maintenance consisting of changing the accessory belts, filters and oil. The gearbox works well and smoothly, while the clutch also functions properly without showing any wear. The braking system responds well, including the handbrake. The tires are in good condition to pass the MOT/ITV without any issue. The suspension and shock absorbers function correctly. On the road it is driven very well, remaining firm and without any play in the ball joints or any unusual noises.
INTERIOR:
The cabin is notably preserved for its age, with the seat upholstery and headlining in good condition, maintaining the original and rugged atmosphere of the Mercedes-Benz cars from the 1980s.
DOCUMENTATION:
The available paperwork consists of the French grey card signed off for sale. With this documentation the vehicle is perfectly eligible to be registered as a classic or historic car in any European Union member country.
COLLECTION:
The vehicle is available for inspection and collection in Rellinars, in the province of Barcelona (Catalonia autonomous community), Spain.

Disclaimer
Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
