Description from the seller
Antique portable alms box in walnut wood with cross inlay in boxwood and brass mouth – 19th century
Refined and distinctive 19th-century portable alms box, crafted in walnut wood, a material that today shows a beautiful warm and deep patina, naturally developed over time and capable of further enhancing the antique character of the object.
The curved, compact shape was designed to facilitate grasping during the collection of offerings. On the front there is a mobile metal handle, while at the bottom lies the small access door to the inner cavity, complete with its original lock, still functional. The key is not present.
The top features the slot for inserting coins, finished internally with a brass mouth. Of particular interest is the back, decorated with a cross inlaid in boxwood, a detail that enriches the overall piece and clearly recalls the ecclesiastical and devotional purpose of the object.
The box preserves a splendid antique patina, with normal signs of use and aging consistent with its age. The lower door shows a slight damage, clearly visible in the photographs, but without compromising the overall charm of the piece.
Dimensions: 20.5 × 22 × 5.3 cm.
A rare and highly decorative object, interesting both as a testimony of sacred art and 19th-century popular devotion, and as a collectible item or to be placed in a refined setting.
The photographs are an integral part of the description and accurately document the condition.
The packing will be carried out with special care by Ankerior, specialized in art logistics and trained at Palazzo Spinelli in Florence in the packing, handling, transport, and logistics of artworks and cultural heritage.
