Description from the seller
A beautiful set of 10 vintage plates from the Faïencerie de Longchamp, a French manufactory established in Côte-d’Or and renowned for its tableware productions in the 20th century.
Dating probably from the 1960s–1970s, these plates feature an elegant square shape with rounded corners, typical of that period.
The service is devoted to feathered game and hunting birds. Several naturalistic scenes unfold: pheasants, partridges, bustards and grouse with capercaillie, represented in pairs in vegetated landscapes.
The polychrome illustrations, highly detailed, stand out on a white background and are surrounded by a gilded ornamental border running along the rim of each plate. The combination of the naturalistic decor, the modernist form, and the gilding gives the set a particularly decorative character.
Each piece bears on the reverse the LONGCHAMP FRANCE mark with the greyhound, the emblem of the manufactory.
La Faïencerie de Longchamp experienced significant activity during the Trente Glorieuses and widely distributed its tableware productions. After several changes of ownership starting in the 1970s, the manufactory was acquired in 1990 by Villeroy & Boch, which continued its activity before the Longchamp site closed.
Composition and dimensions: set of 10 plates; about 22 × 22 cm each; individual weight about 370 g, i.e., about 3.7 kg for the unboxed set.
The plates are in very good overall condition for their age. The polychrome decorations retain bright colors and the gilded borders remain clearly visible. Light signs of use and variations in the gilding may naturally be present. The numerous photographs allow a precise assessment of the condition of each piece and are an integral part of the description.
A beautiful vintage French dinnerware set, both usable and highly decorative, particularly interesting for Longchamp enthusiasts, for 1960s–1970s tableware, for animalier designs, or for hunting iconography.
Careful shipping is provided given the weight and fragility of the set.
