HISTORY/PANORAMA
The Willys MB is the quintessential light all-terrain military vehicle with four-wheel drive, the very symbol of the American armed forces during World War II and the progenitor of all modern off-roaders. Born from a 1940 U.S. Army urgent requirement, it was originally designed by the Bantam Car Company, but mass production was entrusted to Willys-Overland (and later Ford under license) to meet the enormous war demand.
This example was produced in early 1944 and homologated for road use in 1957, retaining its original 1944 2,200 cc gasoline engine and registration as a 6-seat car on the official papers.
EXTERIOR
The bodywork shows a solid state of preservation, with a lovely patina and signs of aging. The canvas roof is present, complete, and in good condition. The original underbody, well preserved, with a solid chassis and no signs of accidents. The wheels have been refurbished in the past and, overall, the car presents itself in preserved and well-usable condition.
INTERIOR
The interiors have been restored in the past and today present themselves in good general condition, maintaining a pleasant and authentic patina of the era. The dashboard is complete with original instruments and well preserved, as is the rare era instrumentation, a feature that helps keep the cabin faithful to the model’s original layout.
MECHANICS
The car is equipped with the original engine bearing the MB-429037 code, consistent with the car’s 1944 production year, a four-stroke 2,200 cc gasoline engine, paired with a manual gearbox. The powerplant starts readily and runs, as does the braking system, converted to disc brakes for greater safety. The technical check is valid until October 2028 and was passed without any defects found; the vehicle is road-legal.
Given the limited recent use, as with all collectible vehicles, a normal check before regular use is always suggested.
A rare original Willys MB from 1944 is now scarce and increasingly difficult to find due to rising interest in this type of road-legal vehicles.

Disclaimer
Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
