Description from the seller
Elegant liturgical chalice in 800 silver and plated metal with a gilded cup – 1938
Refined Eucharistic chalice dating from 1938, characterized by an elegant structure with harmonious lines and a fascinating combination of silvered and gold surfaces. A sacred art object with a sober and refined taste, embellished with symbolic details and a commemorative inscription engraved at the base documenting its dating.
The cup, made of 800 punched silver, features a splendid internal and external gilding in the upper portion, creating a refined color contrast with the lower silvered part. A delicate decorative border emphasizes the transition between the two finishes, adding further elegance to the whole.
The stem, slender and well-proportioned, is characterized by a circular central knot and turned elements that harmoniously guide the eye toward the wide base.
Particularly interesting is the relief decoration on the foot, depicting a radiating cross with ornamental terminals and vegetal motifs, a symbol of deep religious significance. The workmanship, even in its simplicity, testifies to a special attention to the balance of forms and to the detailing.
The base, made of plated metal with brass components, has a polished surface and concentric moldings that complete the composition.
An element of particular historical interest is the inscription engraved on the bottom, containing commemorative references and the date 1938, which allows precisely dating the chalice and adds meaningful documentary value to the object.
Dimensions and features
The chalice dates to 1938, the early 20th century, and is made with a punch-marked 800 silver cup gilded on the inside and outside, while the structure is in plated metal and brass.
It has an overall height of 22.5 cm, a base diameter of 12.5 cm, and a cup diameter of 8.5 cm, with a total weight of about 320 grams.
Condition
The chalice is generally in good condition, preserving notable aesthetic elegance and a pleasing luster of the surfaces.
There are light scratches, superficial marks, small irregularities, and traces of gilding wear, particularly visible on the cup, compatible with age and use over time.
These characteristics do not compromise the overall charm of the object, but they attest to its history.
Please examine carefully all photographs, which are an integral part of the description and document details, hallmarks, and conservation state.
A sacred art object with timeless charm
Thanks to its balanced proportions, the refined silver-gold bi-tone, and the presence of a precise chronological testimony, this chalice represents an interesting example of silverwork and liturgical furnishing from the first half of the 20th century.
Ideal for collectors of sacred art, enthusiasts of historic silverware, and connoisseurs of liturgical objects, it can also be highlighted as an elegant decorative element in classical settings, private studies, libraries, or refined contemporary spaces.
Particularly evocative when displayed inside a glass cabinet, on an antique console, or beside art books and other collectible items, where the contrast between gilded and silvered surfaces can become a true focal point.
The object will be carefully packed and protected with materials suitable for its preservation and transport.
