Description from the seller
French silver coffee and tea service made by Leopold Bessereau in Paris, circa 1920.
The service consists of three matching pieces: a coffee pot, a teapot and a covered sugar bowl. All are made of solid 950 silver in the Art Deco style, with geometric bodies resting on octagonal bases. The pieces are decorated with bands of gadrooning around the middle and along the edges of the lids.
The coffee pot measures 24.5 cm in height and 11.5 cm in diameter. It has a tall, faceted body, a hinged lid with a pointed finial and an angular ebony handle.
The teapot measures 22 cm in height and 14 cm in diameter. It has a wider body, a curved spout, a hinged lid and a matching ebony handle.
The sugar bowl measures 16 cm in height and 11 cm in diameter. It has two side handles, a removable lid and an interior that retains its original gilding.
All three pieces bear French first-standard silver hallmarks (950/1000), together with the maker's mark LB and a cradle symbol in a diamond-shaped punch, identified as the mark of Leopold Bessereau of Paris.
The total weight of the three pieces is 1,949 grams, including the ebony handles.
The service is in very good antique condition, with minor signs of age and use.
It comes from a private family collection and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and a historical assessment issued by Galeria J in Łódź, Poland.
