Description from the seller
Antique Mechanical Scale in Wood and Iron with Weights and Enrico Maroni Milano Brand
Important and fascinating antique beam scale, built with a solid wooden frame and iron mechanisms, belonging to the tradition of weighing instruments used in commercial and agricultural settings. The piece features a wide rectangular wooden base, characterized by a dark finish in green and black tones, with evident signs of time that attest to its ancient use. The weighing platform consists of a sturdy wooden plank platform, reinforced with metal bands and nails, completely removable to allow access to the complex system of levers and iron tie rods underneath. The upper part features an articulated horizontal-beam weighing mechanism graduated, equipped with a cylindrical counterweight, adjustment elements and a turned wooden vertical grip. On the opposite side there is a metal support with a hook and a suspended pan, intended to house the balancing weights. The structure includes robust wooden uprights, one of which is elegantly turned, while the base presents large iron rings for handling. Particularly interesting is the presence of several metallic weights and accessories of various shapes and sizes, kept together with the scale. A noteworthy element is the original maker’s mark, reported on an oval metal plaque with raised lettering “ENRICO MARONI – MILANO – COR: P. TICINESE 8”, a detail that identifies the Milanese commercial origin of the instrument and enriches its historical and collecting interest. The surfaces preserve a suggestive patina of age, with wear, abrasions, oxidation and traces of the original coloration, characteristics that give the piece great authenticity and charm. A piece with notable visual impact, ideal for collectors of antique measuring instruments, rustic environments, industrial-style interiors, agriturismos, commercial premises or exhibition spaces.
