Description from the seller
George Grosz – Peter Pons: The Great Pastime – First Edition 1932 – Color illustrated original dust jacket – Berliner Dada
Rare and attractive first edition from 1932, published by Müller & I. Kiepenheuer, Potsdam.
Poems by Peter Pons, richly illustrated with 29 drawings by George Grosz (1893–1959), including 14 full-page illustrations.
A charming example of the humorous, grotesque, and satirical side of the renowned Berliner Dada artist.
Particularly noteworthy is the preserved, color illustrated original dust jacket by George Grosz, with a large-format title illustration and a color depiction of two putti on the back.
The delicate original dust jacket is often missing on many surviving copies, and thus represents a special collector's value.
Condition: Overall well-preserved copy. The color original dust jacket is somewhat soiled and stained due to age and shows a small defect at the upper left corner as well as light signs of use (see photos). Inside, in good condition, with a slight age-related browning of the paper.
For protection, the book, including the original dust jacket, is housed in a professional, transparent, removable UV book cover.
An interesting collectible of the illustrated book arts of the classical modern era, particularly due to the extensive artistic embellishment and the preserved color original dust jacket by George Grosz.
