Seleucid Kingdom. Antiochus I Soter (281-261 BC). Æ (No reserve price)

Seleukid Kings. Antiochos I Soter (281-261 BC). Æ (Bronze, 16.5 mm, 4.15 g). Obv: Diademed head of Antiochos I to right. Rev: ANTIOXOY - ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ. Apollo, nude, seated left on omphalos, holding arrow in his right hand and leaning with his left on bow; monogram to left and right. Reference: Hoover: Royal and Civic Issues, type 169. Antiochos I Soter inherited the vast Seleukid kingdom after his father Seleukos I was assassinated in 281 BC. His reign was shaped by efforts to preserve this empire against rebellion, rival kings and Galatian incursions into Asia Minor. His celebrated victory over the Galatians, aided by war elephants, became associated with his title Soter, “Saviour”.
