Bronze - Myanmar - 20th century

A splendid, complete set of six antique bronze opium weights (also known as tical weights) from ancient Burma (present-day Myanmar). The weights are beautifully cast in the shape of the Chinthe (the mythical Burmese lion guardian). Each weight rests on a sturdy, distinctive base. The set scales remarkably well in size and weight, making this composition highly prized by collectors. The bronze has developed a deep, dark, and characterful patina over the centuries. A wonderful piece of Asian history and a unique decorative object for lovers of Asian art and antiques.
