Description from the seller
Antique Italian boiling ebullioscope instrument "Ing. Bullio Castore-Milano"
Scientific and enological instrument to measure the alcohol content of wines. Brass and copper construction, with a small alcohol burner at the base to heat the liquid. Centimeter scale. It is delivered as shown in the photo. The photos are an integral part of the description. Wooden box dimensions: 31.5 x 18 x 12.5 cm
Some historical notes about the object: The ebulliometer (or ebullioscope) was not invented in Italy, but in France by the physician and abbot Brossard-Vidal (1838/1842) and later perfected by the Parisian merchant Pierre Marie Edouard Malligand together with Marie Euphrésine Elisabeth Brossard-Vidal, whose main patent dates to 1872-1875. In Italy the instrument spread rapidly from the late 19th century to the early 20th century as an indispensable device for determining the alcoholic strength of wines, being produced or imported by specialized firms (such as Castore Bullio in Milan, the Iosia company, and other mechanical-scientific laboratories).
n.b. = I sell dated objects, purchased over a lifetime, for this reason I would ask you to consider a different approach than for modern products, because the value lies not in perfect functionality, but in charm, history, and the authenticity of lived experience.
