Netherlands, Holland 1/2 Dukaton (Zilveren Rijder) 1790 - UNC

Omschrift: CONCORDIA RES PARVAE CRESCUNT. Muntmeester: Jan Abraham Bodisco (1787-1806). --- This lot features a magnificent silver Half Rider (1/2 Ducaton) from 1790, struck in Dordrecht for the province of Holland. Silver riders and their fractional denominations were among the most prestigious coins of the Dutch Republic. While full-sized riders are more frequently encountered, half denominations in this exceptional grade (Extremely Fine) are significantly scarcer and highly sought after by discerning collectors. Obverse: An armored knight with a sash on a horse galloping to the right. The knight holds a raised sword in his right hand. Below the horse is the crowned provincial coat of arms of Holland (the rampant lion). Legend: MO NO ARG PRO CONFOE BELG PRO HOLL. Reverse: The crowned Generaliteitswapen (arms of the United Provinces), supported by two rampant lions. The date 1790 is located at the bottom within a decorated cartouche. Legend: CONCORDIA RES PARVAE CRESCUNT. Mint Master: Jan Abraham Bodisco (1787-1806). See images for correct impression
