PRECISE MEASUREMENTS
HEIGHT OF THE VASes 21 cm
HEIGHT OF THE CERAMIC 18 cm
LENGTH of the ceramic portion alone 22 cm
Represents a gallant, eighteenth‑century courting scene on a Louis XV style sofa. The lady wears a gown finished with delicate brush floral motifs, while the gentleman holds a birdcage. The base worked in rocaille (baroque scrolls) motifs serves as a stand for the figurative group.
Pair of side vases: amphora‑shaped vases decorated with hand‑painted medallions depicting mythological and romantic‑mythical scenes (including Cupid/Cherubs and pastoral figures). The handles are entirely modeled in the shape of winged figures or mermaids/angels in the round with gold details and pink and yellow hues.
Aesthetic details: extensive use of fine gold finishes (or gold leaf) brushed onto the edges, grooves and reliefs.
Each detail (from the faces to the finger modeling, to the miniature paintings on the medallions) requires sculpting and porcelain painting skills of the highest level.
2. Use of precious materials: fine soft-paste or hard-pried porcelain of quality and the application of lustre and finishes in gold leaf.
3. Complete composition (Tris): finding a complete, intact set (without chipping on fingers, angel wings or vase rims) greatly increases value compared to individual pieces sold separately.
The set passed from the Real Ferdinandea Factory and subsequently to Capodimonte.
The gold leaf was darkened with agate stone.
