Malligand ebulliometer, an antique brass, glass and cast-iron instrument from 1910–1920, 40 cm high, 27 cm wide, 8 cm deep, made in France, weighing 1.5 kg, in good used condition with minor age-related marks.
Description from the seller
Splendid and rare Malligand original period ebulliometer, a superb example of scientific and enological antiquarianism dating from the late 19th century or the very early years of the 20th century (circa 1890-1900). This instrument was used in historic cellars to determine the wine’s alcoholic strength precisely by the boiling point of the hydroalcoholic mixture.
The specimen is exceptionally complete in every part, a very rare feature on the collector’s market:
• Serial number 7892 clearly stamped and legible on the upper brass bezel.
• Main body entirely in brass with a magnificent patina of age and a solid base.
• Original glass thermometer inserted in its metal guide and perfectly preserved.
• Original alcohol burner present and complete (a movable component that almost always got misplaced).
Conditions: Excellent overall cosmetic condition for its age. The brass retains its splendid historical patina without significant dents. The glass capillary tube is intact. The instrument has not been tested for modern enological use, sold as a precious collectible, an educational-scientific piece, or a refined decorative element for prestigious wine cellars, cellars, and taverns.
Detailed photographs are an integral part of the description and show the exact condition of the piece. Tracked shipping via express courier with highly secure professional packaging.
