Description from the seller
Description:
Magnificent and rare pair of decorative abundance horns (rhytons / drinking horns) from the 19th century, in Neo-Gothic / Renaissance Revival style. A prestige set ideal for a cabinet of curiosities or refined decoration.
Gilded bronze mounts: Superb chase work depicting fantastical winged dragons resting on richly adorned quadrupod bases.
The horns are crowned with superb bronze crowns featuring Greek-key friezes and openwork scrolls.
The bronze and its gilding are of very fine workmanship.
Natural horns: Magnificent color ranges from translucent blond to deep black.
Condition: The bronze structures and pedestals are impeccable, very stable and sound. They display a superb original patina with light traces of natural oxidation (verdigris) and old dust in the recesses, attesting to their authenticity. The horns in natural material show classic signs of use and drying cracks typical for their age.
Note: a circular crack under one of the bronze crowns has been consolidated long ago with traces of period glue. The set remains perfectly robust and stable.
Dimensions & Weight:
Total Height: 36 cm
Maximum Horn Width: 18 cm
Dragon Length (head to tail): 22 cm
Bronze Base on the ground: 11 cm
Weight: About 2.37 kg for the pair (Package weight estimated at 4 kg with secure packing)
Shipping: Ultra-secure professional packaging guaranteed (double reinforced carton with ample padding). Shipment with mandatory insurance at actual value.
