Description from the seller
In 1948, Danish paper artist Edel Erstad and her husband, a professional painter, started a company. They design and produce beautiful paper-cut works. Erstad & Stubbe-Teglbjærg (EST) design objects that are handmade, in celebration of modern aesthetics and this beautiful Danish tradition.
Erstad & Stubbe-Teglbjærg (EST) is a relatively small but highly characterful Danish design and craft studio, best known for handmade wooden sculptures and figures from the second half of the 20th century. The brand is nowadays particularly valued by Danish Modern collectors, alongside icons such as Kay Bojesen and Hans Bølling, but with a clearly own, expressive handwriting.
EST stands for Erstad & Stubbe-Teglbjærg, a collaboration between Danish designers/craftsmen active from around the 1960s–1970s. Production took place entirely in Denmark, in small runs and often partly finished by hand.
This is a vintage Maple wooden figure by the designer Edel Erstad, from Denmark. The figure shows influences of the Japanese kokeshi, such as Shindo Shozan, one of the most influential kokeshi artists. I have added a photo with the signature from my other object as an example and proof of authenticity.
