Mantel clock in Napoléon III style dating from 1850–1900, crafted in black polished and veined marble with brass details, featuring a mechanical eight‑day movement, winding key, half‑hour striking, and in good used condition.
Description from the seller
Napoleon III-style elegant mantle clock, dating from the second half of the 19th century, crafted in a refined combination of polished black marble and veined marble in pinkish and ochre tones, which provides a striking chromatic contrast. Its architectural design features a stepped, symmetrical composition, characteristic of the French eclectic taste of the era, with cylindrical columns flanking the glazed central compartment where the visible pendulum rests, a detail that adds depth and dynamism to the ensemble.
The circular dial, framed by a wide decorative bezel of mottled marble, retains Arabic numerals on a light background and engraved-style hands inspired by classical design. The ornamental cylindrical elements and the balanced arrangement of volumes reinforce the monumentality typical of mantel clocks intended to preside over bourgeois salons and chimneys of the 19th century.
The mechanism is in working order, though, as is customary in pieces of this age, it may require adjustment, regulation, or routine maintenance cleaning to reach optimal timekeeping accuracy. The ensemble presents the charm of a historical piece, with a patina appropriate to its age and use, constituting both a decoratively imposing object and an interesting testament to French decorative clockmaking of the Napoleonic III period.
A distinguished and decorative piece that combines the nobility of marble with the sober elegance of 19th-century French clockmaking, ideal for integration into classic, eclectic, or collection-driven interiors.
Certified shipping and careful packing.
