Description from the seller

Silver triptych reliquary formed by three joined reliquary medallions representing the Theological Virtues – 19th century – Italy

Rare silver triptych reliquary, consisting of three oval medallions joined in an openwork mount. The frames are richly carved with scrolls, volutes and relief foliage.

Each medallion, protected by a glass pane, contains several relics arranged on a fabric background and accompanied by their handwritten Latin labels. Notably, the mentions of Saint John the Baptist, Saint Peter the Apostle, Saint Paul the Apostle, Saint James the Greater, and Saint Louis IX are discernible, as well as other saints whose inscriptions are more difficult to read.

The reverses, particularly decorative, feature three relief-struck religious scenes depicting feminine allegorical figures that may evoke the Theological Virtues: Faith, Hope, and Charity.

Probably European 19th-century workmanship, in a Baroque taste.

Good overall condition considering age. Several tituli are displaced and do not seem to occupy their original positions. One glass pane is broken. Signs of use and age are visible.

The photos are an integral part of the object description and complement its presentation. Please examine them carefully before any commitment.

The item will be carefully packed and shipped with a tracking number to ensure fast and secure delivery.

Mineral or textile relics, no human remains.

Happy bidding

In accordance with Canon Law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as a sacred art object. The relics it contains are not the subject of the transaction, but are included gratuitously for their historical and cultural value.
