Description from the seller
Elegant Art Deco mantel clock in stone and marble – circa 1925-1935
Superb Art Deco mantel clock dating probably from the interwar period, circa 1925-1935, featuring an imposing architectural stone or decorative marble case in beautiful natural tones.
This clock immediately stands out for its geometric, monumental silhouette, typical of the Art Deco aesthetics of the 1920s-1930s.
Its case combines beautiful beige, gray and brown tones, animated by remarkable natural veining, with two elegant vertical bands in veined red stone creating a particularly decorative contrast.
The combination of materials, the geometric lines and the architectural construction of the whole make it a piece full of character, especially suitable for an Art Deco interior or a collection of furniture and decorative objects from the interwar period.
A remarkable decorative presence
With a height of 37 cm and a width of 31 cm, this clock has a strong presence on a fireplace, console or cabinet.
Its architecture is composed of a central body with a slanted top, framed by two side uprights and resting on rectangular plinths.
The natural veining of the stone adds great depth to the case: each element has its own nuances and patterns, making the piece particularly decorative.
The two bands of veined red stone provide a refined splash of color and perfectly emphasize the vertical lines of the clock.
The circular dial features large black Arabic numerals, accompanied by a peripheral minute track.
The old hands and the wide, multi-moulded metal bezel elegantly complete the ensemble.
The contrast between the light dial, the black numerals, the metal elements and the decorative stone gives the clock a very characteristic Art Deco aesthetic.
Antique mechanical movement – to be restored
The clock is equipped with an antique key-wound mechanical movement, with a brass mechanism visible at the back.
One can clearly distinguish the plates, gears, and the balance system.
The movement is not currently functional. Restoration and/or a complete overhaul by a specialist clockmaker will be necessary before any regular use.
This peculiarity is clearly acknowledged in the description: the clock is offered as an antique piece to be restored.
It will thus appeal to both an Art Deco enthusiast and a collector or a clocking enthusiast wishing to repair an old movement.
The winding key is present and supplied with the clock.
Good overall condition considering its age, with a lovely antique patina.
The stone/marble case naturally shows a few marks, signs of use and time.
Some small lines or old cracks are visible on the stone. These marks should be considered part of the current condition of the piece and are visible in the photographs.
The metal elements and the dial also show age-related signs of use consistent with a piece from this period.
The clock is sold as seen, in accordance with the photographs.
