Refined and elegant vintage Italian oil and vinegar cruet set in solid 800 silver with two hand-cut Bohemian crystal bottles, in Empire-inspired design, made in Italy in the mid-20th century, with 340 g of silver (excluding the bottles) and hallmarks including 800, the maker mark 1 BS and a Crown, dating roughly 1944–1968.
Description from the seller
Refined and elegant oil and vinegar service (ménéage/olive cruet) in an exquisite Empire style, handmade in Italy in the mid-20th century. The oval stand with supporting feet and a central ring handle is entirely in solid 800-grade silver. The piece bears the original period hallmarks stamped on the base:
• The metal purity mark "800" inserted in the oval.
• The prestigious historic mark "1 BS" inside the elongated lozenge, identifying the Petruzzi & Branca company as Brescia province’s premier official silversmith.
• The Crown symbol, an iconic and exclusive factory mark of the historic Brescia manufacturer.
The conformance of the hallmarks (lozenge without star and without fasces) places the exact dating of the piece between 1944 and 1968 (estimated production in the 1940s/50s).
The set is completed by two splendid Bohemian cut crystal twin decanters with hand-cut geometric decorations and their original diamond-pointed faceted stoppers.
Condition: The lot presents in excellent general preservation for its age. The crystal of the decanters and their respective stoppers are perfectly intact, with no chips or cracks (a very rare condition for these objects). The silver stand shows a beautiful mirror-like surface finish and natural age-related patina localized in the internal recesses of the base (as visible in the photos), which certifies its authenticity and original patina.
Weight of the silver stand alone: 340 grams (excluding the crystal decanters).
High collectible value note: one of the two decanters still retains its original vintage paper label certifying the high quality of the glass: "Echt Bleikristall - Handgeschliffen" (Genuine lead crystal, hand-cut).
