Sculpture, "Tension & Release" — Olympic Figure - 36 cm - Resin

A modern interpretation of Myron's Discobolus — the ancient Greek bronze statue made around 460 BC, one of the most famous images of the human body in motion. The original stood in Athens; this reproduction captures the moment just before the throw, the body coiled like a spring.
Here the figure is finished in matte black, with only the discus itself picked out in antique gold. The musculature, the turn of the torso and the twist of the hips are all rendered in detail, and the whole piece stands on a circular black base with a tree-stump support behind the leg.
