Description from the seller
An Islamic Green-Glazed Terracotta Oil Lamp, Crusader Period, 11th to 13th Century AD
Exceptional green-glazed terracotta oil lamp of elegant standing form, featuring a tall flaring neck above a globular body, an elongated wick channel, and a loop handle connecting the body to the circular foot. The vessel is covered in a rich emerald-green glaze with attractive craquelure, minor firing imperfections, and areas of age-related wear, while retaining an outstanding glossy surface rarely encountered on medieval examples. Lamps of this type were produced throughout the Islamic Near East during the Crusader period and served both domestic and ceremonial purposes, reflecting the sophisticated ceramic traditions that flourished in the Levant during the High Middle Ages. The harmonious proportions, vivid glaze, and remarkable state of preservation make this an especially desirable example of medieval Islamic pottery, combining strong display appeal with considerable historical significance.
