Antique French wooden mirror with a carved and gilded frame in Empire/Rocaille style, dating to circa 1900, external dimensions 73 cm high by 46 cm wide by 5 cm deep, weight 8 kg, in good condition with age-related minor wear.
Description from the seller
Elegant Napoléon III-era mirror in carved and gilded wood, bearing a dynamic form characteristic of the Louis XV or Rocaille style, highly sought after under the Second Empire.
The frame is distinguished by the quality of its carving in solid wood, ornate with sinuous moldings, volutes and counter-volutes of acanthus. It is crowned by a superb carved pediment featuring a stylized shell and finishes at the bottom with small curved console feet. The gilding presents a very beautiful luminous patina with light signs of time that highlight its authenticity and history.
The back of the mirror also testifies to an old and meticulous manufacture, with its original parquet backing in horizontal solid wood boards, characteristic of fine 19th-century carpentry techniques.
