This 17th- to 18th-century Baroque hanging door knocker is made of wrought iron.
Description from the seller
Door handle, either pendant or hinged for a doorway (commonly called "picchiotto").
Italian artisanal craftsmanship (presumably central-northern area or Apennine region).
• Epoch / Late 17th century – early 18th century (late Baroque / rustic period).
Wrought iron, hot-forged, entirely handmade on the anvil by punching, drawing and cold chasing of the finishes.
A metallic element with a mirror-symmetrical omega-shaped profile, characterized by two open, sinuous volutes that connect at the bottom. The upper fulcrum (handle) features a refined barrel-shaped globular knot, decorated longitudinally with beadwork (vertical grooves) executed by chasing. The knot is flanked on the sides by two molded stop rings.
The lower arms terminate with orthogonal pins bent outward, suitable for insertion into the wooden support or into appropriate retaining plates.
The right pin retains the original iron ring hinge, a functional element for the tilting suspension.
Intact. Solid structure showing no fractures or modern welds. The metal exhibits a tactile, weathered surface, characterized by a thick noble dark patina of aging (iron "black" from excavation/antique), with widespread and natural ferrous surface oxidation phenomena (stable rust).
Shipping will be trackable.
