Description from the seller
Fascinating and refined upturned desk (bureau de pente / bureau à cylindre) in the Louis XV style, richly crafted with high-end cabinetmaking techniques. The piece stands out for its splendid marquetry and geometric inlay featuring diamond motifs and opposing grain patterns (butterfly wing), realized in precious wood timbers. The top presents a shaped fall-front that opens to reveal an internal compartment (scarabattolo) ideal for storing documents and small objects. The desk rests on four elegant, curved legs typical of the period, enhanced on the front knees by decorative bronze, gilded or burnished motifs in floral designs. A piece of furniture of great class, perfect for adding a touch of French classicism to a study or a refined salon. General good condition with normal signs of time and age (please study the photos carefully for details of patina and surface). Structurally solid. Country of origin: France / Italy. The desk is located in Rome, so it must be collected in Rome. To ensure it is well protected, secure packaging materials such as double-layer bubble wrap, reinforcing cartons, and tape. I am available to organize potential shipping (shipping and packaging costs to be borne separately).
