Description from the seller
Rectangular parallelepiped walnut-offertory box, made in Italy during the 13th century.
The lid, hinged at the back, has a sunken surface and a raised frame along the entire perimeter. In the center there is a coin slot, with a shaped, concave widening recess carved into the wood.
The body rests on a molded plinth, with a shaped molding also under the lid.
On the front there are two independent iron locks, both with their own key. It is the classic "two-key" box used by churches, confraternities and fabbricerie: to open it required two people, each with their own key, as a guarantee for the safekeeping of the money.
The keys are forged iron, with a pierced shank, an oval ring, and a worked bit.
A devotional and folk-art object with sober, elegant lines, also perfect as a chest or decorative storage box.
DIMENSIONS
Height 19.5 cm - Length 33 cm - Depth 22.5 cm - Weight 4,786 g
CONDITION
Excellent, with signs of use and time. Natural walnut patina, scratches and small dents on edges and the lid, wear and small chips around the slot and openings. The bottom is darker, with stains and scratches. Internal lining and pads under the base are not original. Locks functioning with the two keys.
SHIPPING
Bulky item, professionally packaged and shipped with insured courier.
