Description from the seller
Hand-held lorgnette with a long tortoiseshell handle – Comptoir Central d’Optique, Brussels, around 1905
Elegant Belle Époque hand-held lorgnette with a long handle, apparently from the Comptoir Central d’Optique, 50 rue des Fripiers in Brussels, a optics house documented at the beginning of the 20th century.
The lorgnette features a frame and a long handle with brown-amber veined decoration on a dark background, in tortoiseshell (before 1920).
The telescopic system allows the handle to extend up to 36 cm, giving the object a particularly elegant silhouette, characteristic of refined optical accessories of the Belle Époque. It comes with its original case, bearing the inscription “Comptoir Central d’Optique – 50 rue des Fripiers – Brussels,” a feature especially interesting for its identification and provenance.
Dating: circa 1900–1910.
Condition: good overall for its age, with some signs of use and aging visible in the photographs. Optical quality and mechanism to be considered antique; the object is offered primarily as a historical and decorative collectible piece.
Dimensions:
Case: 30 × 3.8 × 1.8 cm
Lorgnette folded: 25 × 3 × 1.3 cm
Lorgnette extended: 36 cm
A rare and particularly decorative piece, of interest to collectors of antique optics, Belle Époque objects, fashion accessories, and luxury Brussels optical instruments.
Very careful and protective shipping.
Kind regards.
