Description from the seller
Elegant and refined indoor decorative column, historically used as a pedestal for sculptures, marble busts, or prestigious botanical elements (planter).
The piece is a superb example of Italian sculptural craftsmanship, dating from the late 19th to the early 20th century.
The element is entirely carved from a block of high-quality white arabescato marble, characterized by a white-ivory background crossed by a dense and suggestive network of dark gray and ashen veining that gives great visual dynamism to the entire structure.
The Capital (Top Part): Features a scalloped octagonal supporting shelf with bevelled corners, resting on a moulding with turned beading.
The upper plane offers a flat, ideal, and exceptionally stable surface to support artworks or vases.
The Central Shaft: The real peculiarity lies in the shaft being hollowed and worked with alternating drums, divided at the center by a raised ring (collar).
The upper section is finely carved with classic vertical channels, while the lower section displays a splendid torciglione (torchon) spiral work that enhances the natural play of the marble veining.
The Base: At the base, the shaft widens into a bulged element with beaded relief decoration, supported by a succession of tapering torii (toruli) that nest into a solid and massive octagonal plinth base, ensuring a perfect center of gravity for the piece.
A timeless antique-style furnishing accessory, ideal for enriching reception rooms, entrances, or private galleries with a touch of classic Italian monumental elegance.
Measurements: Height 94 cm; square top 20.5 cm; hexagonal base 25 cm.
