Description from the seller
Bronze ring with prominent circular head – 10th–15th century AD
A bronze ring with a prominent circular head in which a dark, granular centre is surrounded by a thick rim. The hoop curves beneath the head and retains an uneven surface with earth-toned deposits. The contrast between the centre and its border gives depth to the front, although the photographs cannot establish whether this represents a surviving filling, an insert or surface alteration. Wear and small pits are visible. The border creates a pronounced separation between the head's outer edge and its darker interior. Viewed obliquely, this arrangement produces a small, elevated focal point above the band. The surrounding deposits soften the transitions between individual surfaces and obscure fine construction details. The contrast of colour and texture is therefore described as it appears, without reconstructing a missing jewel or assuming that the darker material represents a deliberately chosen decorative substance.
Material: Bronze
Dimensions: 2.4 x 1.7 cm
Weight: 3 g
Provenance: Acquired in Germany from an auction house, previously from a personal collection.
We guarantee the authenticity of the pieces, backed by the combined experience of our experts spanning more than 40 years.
A Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) will be sent digitally by email.
