Description from the seller
Bronze ring with broad curved front – 1st–4th century AD
A bronze ring with a broad hoop and an expanded front with a curved surface and saddle-like profile. Incised lines and boundaries along the sides emphasise the transition towards the hoop, while brown patina and pale deposits cover the metal. Abrasion and edge wear are visible. Its configuration differs from the flat-bezel rings in the group and may relate to a particular function, which cannot be established from photographs. The curved upper area follows a different visual logic from a flat disc bezel, making the profile particularly important to an understanding of the piece. Its expanded front and broad lateral surfaces create a more enveloping form around the finger opening. Incised boundaries add definition to portions of the sides without supplying an unambiguous functional clue. The description therefore retains the distinctive silhouette and visible surface treatment without turning the object into a specific specialist implement.
Material: Bronze
Dimensions: 3 x 2.3 cm
Weight: 4.89 gr
Provenance: Acquired in Germany from an auction house, previously from a personal collection.
We guarantee the authenticity of the pieces, backed by the combined experience of our experts spanning more than 40 years.
A Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) will be sent digitally by email.
