Description from the seller

This sale presents a set of works originating from the studio of a Belgian painter, gathered over time through his discoveries, encounters, and affinities. The artists have often cultivated a privileged link with African arts: sensitive to the strength of forms, the simplicity of volumes, and the expressiveness of materials, they were among the first to view these objects as anything other than mere curiosities. Their eye, naturally attentive to lines and balance, led them to collect these works and, sometimes, to draw inspiration from them. This collection thus bears witness to an intimate dialogue between artistic creation, the collector’s gaze, and a fascination with shapes from elsewhere.

Presentation of our appraisal house

Based in Belgium, our appraisal and sales house specializes in African art and ethnography. A trusted seller on Catawiki for over 8 years, we enjoy a solid reputation and a history of several hundred sales with a satisfaction rate approaching 100%.

We regularly assist with liquidations, estates, and dispersals of collections, in collaboration with individuals and families in Belgium and neighboring countries. Our approach is rigorous, transparent, and accessible, with many sales offered without a reserve price.

Some pieces that have passed through our hands have joined international private collections and, for some, museum institutions.

Please check the condition of the objects in the photos before placing a bid. The height is given for guidance and does not bind the seller to any potential variance.

Shipping is insured within 24 hours, with careful packing, insurance, and tracking.
Contact 7 days a week: we remain available for any questions or requests for additional information.
