Description from the seller
Large Vintage Twisted Murano Sommerso Glass Table Lamp – Plum and Green Bicolour, 1950s/60s
A magnificent and imposing mid-century vintage table lamp, a superb example of Italian glassmaking, attributed to the historic glassworks of Murano (Venice). The lamp is entirely handmade using the mouth-blown glass technique, hot-shaped into a twisted (torsadé) form.
The stem stands out for its superb bicolour sommerso glass: a deep plum/amethyst inner core is enveloped in a thick emerald-green outer layer. The twisted ribs create an exceptional lens effect that captures the light and amplifies the colour contrast.
The base features the characteristic polished, concave pontil mark, along with tiny air bubbles that attest to its period craftsmanship. It also has a rare, teardrop-shaped cord outlet integrated directly into the glass.
The piece has recently been restored and completely rewired to meet safety standards, with a refined gold/bronze fabric-braided cord, an inline switch, and a new double-ring lamp holder (E27 fitting), ideal for attaching a lampshade. Fully functional.
• Origin: Italy (Murano)
• Material: Murano art glass, brass
• Colour: Plum purple, emerald green
• Condition: Excellent. The glass is intact, glossy, and free of chips, cracks, or structural repairs. The brass components have a light, natural patina from age.
• Electrical wiring: Fully functional and safe (new wiring). Bulb not included.
Dimensions (glass body only):
• Height: 43 cm
• Maximum base diameter: 16 cm
Note: The piece is supplied without the fabric shade shown in the photo for illustrative purposes only
