AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Aubusson tapestry “Verdure with Bird and Landscape” - France, 19th century

Tapestry of approximately square format, in polychrome wool threads, Aubusson production of the 19th century. It represents a wooded landscape of the verdure type, dominated by trees with twisting trunks, branches and abundant vegetation.

In the foreground a bird with wings open stands out, beside a rocky area and water. In the background, an architectural building and distant relief give depth to the composition. The palette combines blues, bluish greens, beiges, ochres and browns, with pinkish accents in the floral decoration.

The central field is framed by a continuous surround of flowers and foliage on a light background, externally delimited by a dark blue band. The composition belongs to the decorative tradition of French verdure tapestries, conceived to bring landscape and nature into interiors.

Photographs of the reverse show the woven structure and numerous thread ends and connections, compatible with tapestry work.
