Description from the seller
"Patio canario" is a 100 × 70 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García. The work depicts a bright traditional courtyard in which white architecture is partially covered by lush fruit-bearing trees. A red door in the center of the composition acts as the focal point and guides the eye into the interior of the dwelling, creating an intimate scene marked by vegetation, color, and light.
The composition is built through a succession of ascending planes. In the foreground are pots, plants, and small garden elements; in the central area, the fruit trees form a green arch around the entrance; and at the top the white façades emerge with green and blue windows. This vertical structure heightens the sense of looking at a hidden corner between traditional houses.
The color palette is dominated by emerald greens, turquoise, and blues, contrasting with the luminous white of the walls. The yellow and orange fruits appear as small flashes of light among the foliage, while the intense red door introduces the main chromatic contrast of the work. Yellows, greens, reds, and blues are combined freely, moving away from a strictly naturalistic representation.
The brushwork is direct and visible, especially in the vegetation, built with quick, overlapping patches that convey abundance and movement. The architecture, by contrast, is resolved with broader, more geometric forms, creating a balance between structure and spontaneity. This expressive use of color links it to Fauvism and to artists such as Henri Matisse and André Derain.
In "Patio canario", Ernest García transforms a quotidian insular architectural space into a celebration of light and nature. The whitewashed façades, balconies, pots, fruit trees, and the sheltered patio evoke Canary domestic tradition, while the chromatic treatment gives the scene a fully contemporary interpretation.
"Patio canario" will be especially appealing to collectors interested in contemporary figurative painting, Fauvism, Canarian architecture, traditional patios, gardens, fruit trees, Mediterranean and Atlantic landscapes, indoor-outdoor space, and color-rich painting. The combination of lush vegetation, white architecture, and strong contrasts makes the work a luminous, vibrant, and welcoming image.
