Plate - Glass - Ercole Moretti, Murano

A decorative display plate in the millefiori technique produced by Ercole Moretti, one of the oldest continuously operating glass studios on the island of Murano, Venice. The plate is composed entirely of old murrine — individual coloured glass canes, each bearing a cross-section flower pattern — gathered and fused together one by one to form a densely packed mosaic surface across the full face of the plate. The polychrome arrangement of the murrine is characteristic of the traditional Murano millefiori workshop tradition. The underside bears the studio mark 'M', consistent with Ercole Moretti attribution. Diameter 18.5 cm, weight 324 g. Condition: Excellent. The plate shows no chips, cracks, or repairs; the surface is intact and the colours are consistent throughout. No defects are known or observed.
