Description from the seller
Fazzoletto Bowl in Zanfirico Technique, pink and white
Murano, mid-20th century – hand-blown glass with fused-in thread canes
OBJECT
Small bowl in the famous pocket handkerchief form (“Fazzoletto”): The rim folds into soft waves and points, as if a handkerchief had been laid over the hand. The wall consists of ribbons in Zanfirico technique (also “a retortoli”) – twisted glass canes with fine thread spirals in white and pink, melted side by side during blowing. Pink and white net ribbons alternate with clear stripes. From above, all ribbons converge in a star-shaped pattern toward the center of the base.
THE FORM
The Fazzoletto form was designed in 1949 by Fulvio Bianconi and Paolo Venini for Venini in Murano and is among the best-known glass forms of Italian design. It has been adopted by many Murano studios. This piece is unsigned and is not attributed to Venini; it is a work after the design by Bianconi/Venini.
