Description from the seller
• Ercuis - Large double saleron / condiment holder, Art Nouveau - Silvered metal
• Description:
Superb and imposing double saleron (or condiment holder) from the Art Nouveau period / late 19th century, crafted by the prestigious French haute-orfèvrerie house Ercuis. The piece rests on eight curved feet adorned with magnificent fan-shaped stylized shells. The bowls feature walls with twisted fluted sides and an elegant central cartouche in the shape of an inverted heart, ideal for a monogram. The tall central pierced handle gives the whole piece a very slender silhouette.
Under the base, the item bears a full set of original marks:
• The ERCUIS brand in full letters.
• The official square master punch with the Centaur (created in 1886).
• The number 10 (indicating the silvering fineness).
• The model/catalogue number 6725.
• Condition: Good overall condition, very nice shine of the silvering with a superb antique patina. Light usage oxidations inside the bowls (consistent with age and use, see photos).
