Description from the seller

Antique Dutch 835 Silver Crochet Hook Case – Biedermeier Period – Engraved Monogram – 19th Century

An elegant and finely decorated antique Dutch silver crochet hook case, dating from the 19th century, in the Biedermeier style.

This slender cylindrical case was originally designed to protect and store delicate, fine crochet hooks used by ladies for intricate needlework, lace-making and other refined textile crafts.

During the 19th century, such accessories were often treasured personal possessions and formed part of a lady's sewing or needlework collection.

Decoration and craftsmanship
The silver case features an exceptionally attractive surface decoration consisting of numerous small, individually punched dots, known as punched stippling or punched dot decoration.
This delicate technique creates a beautiful textured surface that catches and reflects the light.

A polished central cartouche is embellished with finely engraved floral motifs and the elegant initials of the original owner, adding a personal and historical character.

The removable cylindrical cap is decorated in the same style and finished with a raised circular collar.

The combination of delicate engraving, geometric dot decoration and elegant proportions reflects the refined craftsmanship associated with 19th-century silver accessories.
