Description from the seller
Centerpiece stand in 800 silver - Italian artisanal craftsmanship - Late 19th / Early 20th Century
Refined and elegant centerpiece stand crafted in solid 800 silver, of Italian artisanal origin, datable to the end of the 19th century (Umbertine period) and the early decades of the 20th century.
The object stands out for a classic and well-proportioned design: it features a shallow circular plate decorated along the edge with a fine continuous beading. On the sides are attached two splendid volute handles, richly chased with foliate motifs. The central flared stem rests on a solid, rigorous stepped square base, also finished with the same geometric motif as the upper edge.
The silver hallmark "800" is impressed in free space on the edge of the plate (a typical feature preceding the standardization laws of 1934), accompanied by the maker's initials "F.O." and by a partly impressed figurative/seal factory mark.
Dimensions and Weight:
• Height (H): 15 cm
• Maximum width (W): 30 cm
• Depth / Diameter (D): 24.5 cm
• Total weight: 539 grams
Conditions and Restoration Notes
The object presents in generally good aesthetic condition, with a beautiful patina of its era and normal surface wear consistent with its age.
Important technical note: As visible in the photographic detail, the lower junction point between the stem and the cup has in the past undergone a structural repair using a method unknown to me. The intervention makes the centerpiece absolutely stable and solid for display, the material’s casting is visible when overturning the cup. A professional restoration could restore the original high-temperature weld.
