Description from the seller
Rare Hermès ashtray in fine porcelain.
A prized collectible dating from the 1970s/1980s.
It features at the center a well-detailed hare, surrounded by a yellow border with gold detailing.
The base is typically lined with suede to protect the surfaces it rests on.
On the sides the official mark "Hermès-Paris" and Made in France 313. The number 313 represents the specific identifying code of the workshop and the decorator. The first "3" indicates the particular atelier or production line of the porcelain; the "1" and the second "3" (often written as 3 1 3 or 3.1.3 depending on how the artisan applied the stamp or brush) identify the master decorator's registration number who hand-finished the borders in fine gold leaf and the hare illustration.
Lower left is the initials X.P., representing the original signature of the legendary illustrator of the piece: Xavier de Poret.
Xavier de Poret is a famous artist and animal portraitist who has long collaborated with Hermès, specializing in wildlife and hunting-themed subjects.
