Description from the seller
ITALY. Rome. 500 Lire. 1992.
- Value: 500 Lire.
- Year: 1992.
- Inscriptions: Obverse: GIAMPAOLI. Reverse: REPVBLICA ITALIANA · L.500 · R.
- Grading: PR68DCAM (PCGS).
Silver coin belonging to the famous “Caravelle” type. The obverse, by Pietro Giampaoli, depicts Italy as a young woman dressed in Renaissance style—inspired by Letizia Savonitto, the artist’s wife—surrounded by the coats of arms of nineteen regional capitals; the reverse, designed by Guido Veroi, shows the Niña, Pinta and Santa María caravels sailing to the right. The proof finish features deeply mirror fields and heavily frosted reliefs, creating the pronounced cameo contrast recognized by the DCAM designation with the high grade PR68. This 1998 issue was not intended for circulation and was included exclusively in the official collectors’ series, with a print run of 9,500 pieces in Proof finish.
Disclaimer: For orders shipped outside the European Union, I want to leave absolutely clear that I do ship from Spain, which means that if the package is sent to any country outside the European Union, and/or inside EU that has special tax agreement (example: Canary Islands), it might be stopped in your local customs and they might ask you to pay taxes. This is a customs legal procedure and it is completely out of our control. Thanks for your understanding.
