Description from the seller
Impressive and exceptionally large Ernst Leitz Wetzlar EPIS projection lens, manufactured in Germany.
This original Leitz EPIS 1:4 / 400mm lens was intended for a Leitz episkop/epidiaskop, for projecting non-translucent material. With its enormous front element, 400mm focal length, and light-gathering power of f/4, it is nowadays also highly sought after for experimental large-format photography, wet plate collodion, portraits, and camera obscura projects.
The lens has no standard camera mount, no built-in diaphragm, and no focusing mechanism. For photographic use it must be mounted on a lens board, a bellows camera, or its own adapter construction.
The housing shows normal signs of use and aging, including superficial scratches and wear. The large optical elements appear clear; examine the photos carefully, they are part of the description.
