Description from the seller
A very elegant and finely crafted antique French fish server (pelle à poisson) from the Restoration period (early 19th century). The wide, gracefully curved blade is made of solid first-grade silver (.950) and features beautifully detailed openwork (ajouré) engravings with acanthus leaves and classical rinceaux motifs. The server has a distinctive, handmade handle of finely turned and blackened wood. The silver piece bears clearly readable, authentic French hallmarks at the base of the blade:
• Maker's mark (Poinçon de maître): The diamond-shaped stamp 'A . M' with symbol, belonging to the renowned Parisian silversmith Antoine Morange.
• Guarantee mark: The well-known 'Vieillard' hallmark (head of an old man with the number 1), indicating the highest French silver standard of 950/1000 and the period 1819–1838.
• Origin: Stamped with the corresponding Parisian guarantee mark.
