Alberto Tandoi - Signed - 400 Km - 2025

400 KM – Alberto Tandoi 400 KM is a self-published photobook by Italian photographer Alberto Tandoi, an intimate and unconventional portrait of London told through the faces of its inhabitants. The project emerged from a series of walks covering approximately 400 kilometres across the British capital, during which Tandoi approached strangers whose appearance, personality or distinctive sense of style caught his attention. Rather than documenting London's familiar landmarks, Tandoi turns his camera towards the extraordinary diversity of people who inhabit its streets. Eccentric characters, alternative subcultures, unconventional fashion and individual expressions of identity become the protagonists of a photographic journey that moves between street photography, portraiture and fashion imagery. Working with a medium-format Mamiya RB67 camera, Tandoi adopts a deliberate and intimate approach. The slow process of preparing each photograph creates an opportunity for interaction between photographer and subject, transforming spontaneous encounters into carefully composed portraits. The resulting images combine the immediacy of street photography with the visual sophistication of editorial fashion, while retaining a sense of authenticity and personal connection. Throughout the book, portraits alternate with glimpses of the urban environment, creating a fragmented but coherent vision of contemporary London. Beyond its celebration of individuality, 400 KM explores the relationship between photography and human encounters, presenting the city as a constantly evolving collection of identities, attitudes and personal stories. This particular copy is signed by Alberto Tandoi, making it especially appealing to collectors of contemporary photography and independently published photobooks. The photographer's signature adds a personal dimension to a publication whose central theme is precisely the connection established between individuals through the photographic act. ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER Alberto Tandoi is an Italian photographer originally from Milan, currently working between London and Italy. He studied Design and Photography at the Politecnico di Milano and continued his photographic education at the Bauer Institute. His interest in photography developed during an academic exchange in Germany, where he became particularly attracted to documentary photography and traditional darkroom processes. His professional practice moves between fashion, editorial portraiture and personal documentary projects, with work published in magazines including L'Officiel, Vanity Fair, Schön Magazine, Cosmopolitan Italia and D la Repubblica. His photography is distinguished by an interest in individuality, contemporary subcultures and the relationship between personal identity and visual expression. 400 KM represents an important expression of these interests through the intimate and spontaneous encounters of everyday urban life.
