Mantel clock - Antique Alloy - 1850-1900

19th-Century French Mantel Clock – Hunting Theme – Antimony & Marble • 19th century (Late Napoleon III period, circa 1870–1890), France • Materials: Gilt antimony, black marble, enamel inlays • Dimensions: Height 42 cm, Width 41 cm, Depth 15 cm • Weight: 6.100 kg • Condition: Very good aesthetic condition, with a natural patina consistent with age. The clock movement is functional, as is the striking mechanism (chiming on the hour and half-hour). An exceptionally rare and masterfully crafted French mantel clock, featuring a distinct historical and hunting-themed motif—a quintessential example of the French school from the second half of the 19th century. The top is adorned with an imposing figure of a male hunter dressed in traditional period attire. Beside him lies an elaborate, high-relief composition of oak leaves and a hunted bird, capturing the spirit of the wilderness and traditional hunting with remarkable realism. The clock features a dark, circular marble dial with gold Roman numerals and ornate hands. The sculptures rest on a sturdy black marble base. The body of the base is richly decorated with elaborate elements, featuring geometric black inlays accented with gold stars or sunburst motifs. The clock stands on four ornate feet. In very good condition, with no breaks in the metal components or cracks in the marble. There is natural oxidation and patina on the gilding, which confirms its authenticity and age. The clock is sold in "as found" condition. While the mechanism appears complete, it is recommended that it be inspected, lubricated, or adjusted, as its operational accuracy has not been recently tested. The winding key and pendulum are not included. It shows signs of normal wear, entirely consistent with its age. THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE PART OF THE DESCRIPTION. It will be shipped in secure packaging.
